The Kogi State Government has confirmed an early-morning attack on a Cherubim and Seraphim Church in Ejiba, Yagba West Local Government Area.
In a statement issued on Sunday in Lokoja, the Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, condemned the assault, describing it as “sad and unacceptable.” The attackers reportedly abducted the pastor, his wife, and several worshippers, causing panic in the community as residents fled for safety.
Fanwo said the gunmen may have been hiding in Ejiba or nearby bushes for days, urging residents to report suspicious movements rather than staying silent.
He warned that holding worship gatherings in isolated locations without security was risky, especially after a similar church abduction recently occurred in Kwara State.
Fanwo appealed for heightened vigilance:
- “When you see something, say something.”
- “Avoid worshipping in unsecured places.”
- “Minimise unnecessary travel through high-risk areas.”
- “Do not reveal your movements carelessly.”
He added that the state government and security agencies had already taken decisive steps to ensure all abducted victims are rescued safely.
