Two people lost their lives and 19 others were injured in a road accident that occurred on the Lokoja–Okene highway in Kogi State on Tuesday.
The incident was confirmed by the Kogi State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Tenimu Etuku, in a statement issued in Lokoja.
According to him, four of the injured passengers sustained varying degrees of injuries, including bruises and fractures, and were taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
Etuku explained that the accident involved a commercial bus that departed Kano on Monday evening en route to Auchi and Benin. The crash reportedly occurred around 9:40 a.m. on Tuesday and was attributed to excessive speeding.
He said FRSC rescue personnel responded promptly to the incident, while the bodies of the two deceased victims were deposited at the morgue of the Kogi Specialist Hospital in Lokoja.
The sector commander advised motorists to exercise caution while driving, particularly during the festive season, and urged strict compliance with traffic rules and speed limits to prevent avoidable accidents.
He stressed that responsible driving would help reduce road crashes and save lives across the country.
Meanwhile, another road accident was earlier reported along the Isara-Remo axis of the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, where passengers were discovered dead following a crash that occurred in the early hours of the morning. Authorities said the victims were found by traffic and police officials several hours after the incident.
