Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat, founder of Agidigbo FM, has explained the motivation behind his decision to contest the Oyo State governorship election.
Hamzat said his entry into the race was guided by what he described as divine instruction, stressing that the decision followed deep reflection and prayer.
The popular broadcaster recently declared his intention to run for governor under the Accord Party (AP). Addressing listeners on Agidigbo FM on Monday, Hamzat acknowledged the concerns raised by supporters and advisers who cautioned him against contesting but said he remained convinced about his mission to serve the people.
“I appreciate everyone who advised me, both those who encouraged me and those who warned me not to contest,” he said. “I carefully considered all the opinions and then took the matter to God. After praying, I became convinced that I should go ahead. I cannot disobey God just to please people, even though I know the advice was given out of love.”
Hamzat appealed to anyone who may feel disappointed by his decision, asking for understanding and support as he pursues the state’s top political office.
He added that his ambition was driven by a desire to serve sincerely and to offer leadership different from what he described as the corruption often associated with politics.
“I want to serve the people and not follow the path of corrupt politicians,” he said. “I believe I can win because the people are with me. No one was paid to attend the event where I declared my interest.”
Dismissing doubts about his chances, Hamzat said he was no longer worried about losing the election or being rigged out.
“We have gone beyond the fear of whether I will lose or not. I am focused and I am asking for everyone’s support,” he stated.
Hamzat’s declaration has continued to generate reactions across Oyo State’s political space as preparations for the governorship race gather momentum.
