Public Warned Against Using Casual Titles for Young Ondo Monarch
The palace of the Arujale-Ojime of Okeluse Kingdom in Ondo State has cautioned the public against addressing the 22-year-old monarch, Oba Oloyede Adekoya Akinghare II, with informal or disrespectful terms.
In a statement released on Friday by the monarch’s Chief of Staff, Prince Adefemi Olorunfemi, the palace stressed that the king must be formally addressed as “His Royal Majesty” at all times. The statement warned that casual expressions such as “bro” or “blood” are inappropriate and will no longer be tolerated.
According to the palace, some individuals have been using informal language under the guise of familiarity, which is seen as a sign of disrespect to the traditional institution. The Chief of Staff noted that the monarch’s young age does not diminish the dignity of the throne, adding that respect for cultural and traditional authority remains a core value in Yoruba society.
The palace further emphasized that the monarch represents both the people and their ancestral heritage, describing the throne as sacred and deserving of reverence. It warned that continued disregard for proper forms of address could attract strict measures.
Residents of Okeluse Kingdom and the general public were urged to uphold the dignity of the royal institution and conduct themselves with respect toward the monarch at all times.
Oba Akinghare ascended the throne at the age of 16 while still in secondary school, following the death of his father, who was the previous ruler. As the first son, tradition required him to succeed his late father, and the town’s kingmakers, with state government approval, installed him as the traditional ruler of Okeluse Kingdom.
