Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 4 Brigade, working alongside the Nigerian Air Force and other security agencies, have arrested eight suspected kidnappers and drug dealers during a clearance operation in Edo State.

The suspects were apprehended on February 4 during an operation tagged “Operation Igbo Danu,” carried out in Osara community in Etsako West Local Government Area, as well as Auchi and Okpella communities in Edo North Senatorial District.

In a statement released on Friday by the Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, 4 Brigade, Captain Kennedy Anyanwu, the operation was launched to flush out terrorists and kidnappers and rescue victims held in the affected communities.

According to the statement, those arrested include Jamilu Mohammad (25), Kasim Abu (33), Braimoh Affeez (31), Sulaiman Hamisu (36), Lawan Umaru (25), Bawa Auwal (24), Musa Umaru (40), and Amodu Attai (50).

Weapons recovered from the suspects include an English pump-action gun, four live cartridges, and a locally made pistol.

Security operatives also seized several items including a POS machine, two cutlasses, a Nikon digital camera, two Android phones, a metal hook, five bottles of codeine syrup, two weighing scales, and substances suspected to be cannabis sativa, tramadol, ice, loud and colos. The sum of ₦87,550 was also recovered.

The suspects and all recovered exhibits have been handed over to the Edo State Police Command for further investigation and possible prosecution.
