Social media critic Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has revealed that Nigerian singer Burna Boy warned him that the same people he is defending could eventually turn against him.
VeryDarkMan made the disclosure while discussing his activism, the criticism he faces and the pressure that comes with speaking publicly on issues affecting Nigerians.
According to him, Burna Boy drew from his own experiences and cautioned him that constantly fighting for Nigerians could become exhausting and expose him to backlash from the same people he supports.
VeryDarkMan quoted the singer as telling him: “These people, they will put a knife in your neck. Fighting for Nigerians is tiring.”
He said Burna Boy also prayed for him after witnessing the backlash surrounding his activism, warning him that Nigerians had previously subjected the singer himself to harsh criticism despite his achievements.
VeryDarkMan recalled an incident involving Burna Boy in the United Kingdom, claiming that some Nigerians joined calls for the singer to be cancelled despite previously celebrating his international success.
According to him, Burna Boy’s experience served as a warning about the unpredictable nature of public support and the challenges that come with advocating for Nigerians.
VeryDarkMan said the singer’s message reinforced the difficulties he currently faces as he continues to speak out on issues he believes affect ordinary Nigerians.
