The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has promised to fully implement the Oronsaye Committee Report if elected president in the 2027 general elections.

Atiku made the commitment in a statement issued on Friday by his spokesperson, Kenneth Okonkwo, arguing that the report provides a clear framework for reducing duplication, waste and the high cost of governance in Nigeria.

The former Vice President accused President Bola Tinubu of failing to fulfil his reported commitment to implement the recommendations, alleging that his administration had instead increased the number of government agencies, including what he described as fake agencies.

Atiku assured Nigerians that the Oronsaye Report would not be left unimplemented under his administration, promising a transparent and comprehensive process.

“I will start implementing the Oronsaye Committee Report immediately after inauguration, with a transparent audit of the number and purpose of all the agencies of government in existence, especially in light of numerous fake agencies created by Tinubu’s administration,” he said.

According to him, his administration would scrap unnecessary agencies, merge institutions with overlapping responsibilities and close financial leakages.

He said the savings generated from the reforms would be redirected towards healthcare, education, infrastructure, job creation and social protection.

Atiku also pledged to reduce the cost of running government, beginning with the presidency and the activities and maintenance of government officials.

“I will not ask Nigerians to make sacrifices while government continues to waste money. Nigeria does not need more promises. Nigeria needs action,” he stated.

He added that he would lead by example and pursue a more efficient and accountable government where a greater portion of public funds would be used to improve the lives of Nigerians.
