Nigerian comedian and content creator Carter Efe has claimed that pressure from social media played a major role in the decision by fellow content creators Peller and Jarvis to get married.
Speaking during an interview, Carter questioned the authenticity of their relationship and suggested that the constant attention and expectations from online audiences may have influenced the couple’s decisions.
He also joked about not being invited to their wedding, saying the couple allegedly regarded him as a “witch” and therefore chose to leave him out of the ceremony.
Carter argued that social media engagement, particularly comments and reactions from followers, can significantly influence relationships involving content creators.
According to him, some couples may feel pressured to take certain steps because of the expectations created by their online audiences.
He said he personally would not want to date another content creator or public figure because of the pressure associated with maintaining a relationship in the public eye.
Reflecting on his own past relationship, Carter revealed that his romantic life had once become closely connected to his content creation. He said there was a period when he felt unable to produce content without his partner because their followers had become accustomed to seeing them together.
He disclosed that the situation became emotionally stressful, particularly when disagreements occurred between them before they had to appear together in front of the camera.
Carter said he eventually realised that allowing internet audiences to dictate his personal decisions was unhealthy and decided to take control of his own choices.
He warned that people who allow social media users to control their relationships could eventually regret those decisions because online audiences may not genuinely care about their personal wellbeing.
