The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has secured the conviction of two wanted suspects, Yau Sule and his sister, Mariya Sule, for unlawful possession of live ammunition and alleged involvement in an ammunition supply network.
Yau Sule was arrested on June 2, 2026, while travelling along the Abuja-Kaduna Highway. According to the police, operatives recovered 81 rounds of 7.62mm live AK-47 ammunition and 100 rounds of 7.62mm belted ammunition designed for a General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) from him.
Following further investigations, police operatives arrested his sister, Mariya Sule, who was also linked to the alleged ammunition supply network.
FCT Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, said the siblings were arraigned before Chief Magistrate Court 1 in Dutse-Alhaji, FCT, where they were convicted for unlawful possession of live ammunition under the Firearms Act.
The court, in separate warrants dated August 24, 2026, sentenced both suspects to 250 days in prison without an option of fine.
They are to serve their respective sentences at the Suleja Correctional Centre.
The police said the arrests were carried out as part of intelligence-led operations targeting suspected ammunition suppliers allegedly providing weapons and ammunition to kidnappers and other criminal groups operating across the North-Central region and the FCT.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling criminal networks threatening residents of the capital and neighbouring states.
The police also urged members of the public to report suspicious individuals and activities to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency response channels.
