President and founder of Winners Chapel Worldwide, Bishop David Oyedepo, has criticised Islamic cleric Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir over controversial comments he reportedly made about Christians and the Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket.
Jingir, while speaking at a political gathering in Kano State earlier this month, reportedly claimed that Nigeria belongs to Muslims, suggesting that Christians were secondary in the country.
The cleric was defending his support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 election, arguing that Muslims constitute the majority in Nigeria.
His comments sparked reactions across the country, with several Nigerians, including some Muslims, calling for him to be held accountable.
Reacting to the remarks during a sermon captured in a viral video, Oyedepo challenged the claim that Nigeria is an Islamic nation.
He urged those supporting Jingir to consider the large number of Christians worshipping across the country, particularly at major Christian gatherings.
“Watch Redemption Camp, Salvation Ministries, Dunamis and other ministries in Nigeria.
“And someone will stand and say Nigeria is an Islamic nation? Is he mad? Yes, he must be mad,” Oyedepo said.
The cleric also made a prediction about the country, saying Nigerians should expect unusual developments within the next 12 months.
“Now, watch, there shall be strange happenings between now and the next twelve months in Nigeria,” he added.
