Nigerian businessman Prince Isaac Fayose has criticised Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke over his recent political engagements with leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) following the governorship election.
Drivetvnews gathered that Fayose questioned Adeleke’s decision to meet and work with APC leaders despite allegations of violence and the deaths of supporters during the election campaign.
Ahead of the August 15 governorship election, Adeleke, who contested on the platform of the Accord Party, had alleged that suspected APC thugs killed some of his supporters.
The APC, however, rejected the allegation and accused individuals allegedly linked to Adeleke of attacking and killing more than 20 of its supporters.
Despite the competing allegations, the Independent National Electoral Commission declared Adeleke the winner of the election.
Following his victory, Adeleke met with several political figures, including President Bola Tinubu and other APC stakeholders. The meetings sparked questions among some of his supporters, with some expressing disappointment over his new political engagements.
Reacting to the development in a Facebook post, Fayose questioned why Adeleke was now associating with those he had previously accused of oppressing his supporters.
> “29 people died fighting for Adeleke, and the same Adeleke is now with the oppressors. What a country!” Fayose said.
He also raised concerns about the alleged amount of money spent by the two major political camps during the election.
Fayose noted that there were competing claims from both sides, with Davido’s father, Adedeji Adeleke, allegedly claiming that the APC spent N60 billion, while former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose reportedly claimed that the Accord Party spent N40 billion.
According to him, the alleged combined expenditure of N100 billion on the election could have been used to improve the lives of many Nigerians if distributed for public benefit.
“If you shared that N100 billion among the people, do you know how many lives you would touch? And this is taxpayers’ money,” he said.
Fayose’s comments come amid ongoing political realignments in Osun following Adeleke’s re-election and his subsequent meetings with leaders across party lines.
