The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the recently concluded Osun State governorship election, Bola Oyebamiji, has met with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja following his defeat at the polls.
Drivetvnews gathered that Oyebamiji met with the President on Friday, less than 24 hours after Governor Ademola Adeleke, who won the election on the platform of the Accord Party, visited Tinubu and presented his Certificate of Return.
Speaking with journalists after the meeting, Oyebamiji called for peace among political actors and residents of Osun State, saying the APC was still reviewing the outcome of the election.
He said Tinubu advised him to approach the post-election period with a peaceful mindset.
According to Oyebamiji, governance is ultimately about serving the people, making peace essential regardless of political differences.
> “I met with the President, and what he said was that the most important thing is to run every election with a peaceful mind.
> “It is important for us Nigerians to know that government is about the people, and because of that, it is important that we should be peaceful. I want to appeal to our people in Osun that they need to be peaceful,” he said.
The APC candidate also disclosed that the party was still examining the election results and other relevant documents before deciding on its next course of action.
He said the party would communicate its position to the public after completing its review.
Oyebamiji further appealed to Governor Adeleke to caution his supporters and prevent any acts of violence following the election.
His comments come amid heightened political tensions in the state after Adeleke was declared the winner of the August 15 governorship election.
