Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has met with the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mahmoud Youssouf, to discuss developments across the continent and issues affecting Africa.
The meeting, which took place on Friday, focused on peace, dialogue and stability across the continent.
The African Union said Youssouf commended Obasanjo for his continued contribution to continental affairs and his efforts to promote peace and stability in Africa.
According to the AU, the commission chairperson praised Obasanjo’s continued engagement in efforts aimed at resolving conflicts and strengthening dialogue across the continent.
“The Chairperson commended President Obasanjo’s continued engagement in support of peace, dialogue and stability across the continent,” the statement said.
Obasanjo currently serves as an African Union High Representative, a role he was first appointed to in August 2021. He was later reappointed to continue his peacebuilding and mediation efforts on the continent.
During the meeting, the two leaders also exchanged views on major regional developments and other matters of continental importance.
The engagement comes as the African Union continues to work with former African leaders and other stakeholders on peace, conflict resolution and stability across different parts of the continent.
