The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has declared that the 2027 election will be his final attempt to become President of Nigeria, regardless of whether he wins or loses.
Atiku, a former vice president, made the declaration during a Facebook Live session on Thursday.
The 79-year-old politician has contested for the presidency several times over the past decades and secured the ADC ticket for another attempt in the 2027 general election.
Atiku, who served as vice president between 1999 and 2007 and has belonged to several political parties during his political career, said he would not seek the presidency again after 2027.
> “Whether I win or lose, 2027 will be my last time contesting for the presidency,” he said.
The former vice president also repeated his allegation concerning the academic credentials of President Bola Tinubu, claiming that the President’s certificates were forged.
Atiku said he was the person who initially raised concerns about Tinubu’s academic qualifications and maintained that he stood by his allegation.
> “I was the one who raised the issue surrounding President Bola Tinubu’s academic certificates, and I stand by my position that there was forgery,” he said.
He argued that questions surrounding the academic credentials of Nigeria’s President were unacceptable and should be properly addressed.
> “It is unacceptable for the President of Nigeria to have such questions surrounding his academic credentials,” Atiku added.
The certificate controversy has been a recurring issue in Nigeria’s political discourse, particularly since Tinubu’s emergence as the APC presidential candidate and subsequent election as President.
Atiku is currently preparing for the 2027 presidential election under the ADC platform after joining forces with several opposition figures seeking to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress.
