Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has claimed that Senate President Godswill Akpabio and billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote contacted him during the Osun State governorship election and asked him to delete some of his social media posts.
Davido made the disclosure during an interview with News Central TV on Tuesday, while speaking about his involvement in monitoring the election and the pressure he allegedly faced during the collation of results.
The singer also alleged that more than N110 billion in cash was brought into Osun State in an attempt to influence the outcome of the election.
According to him, information from an insider enabled his team to monitor what was happening during the election.
“They spent N110 billion. I’m coming from somewhere where we had an insider who was sending us… If you see the cash these people brought in. If they had gotten away with that election, Nigeria is finished.”
Davido said his team did not distribute money to voters on election day, relying instead on prayers, voter vigilance and the determination of residents to protect their votes.
He claimed that some Osun residents confronted individuals allegedly attempting to interfere with ballot processes.
Speaking about the pressure he faced while posting updates on X, formerly known as Twitter, Davido said influential figures contacted him and asked him to remove his posts.
He alleged that Akpabio was attempting to reach the collation centre and that he was also contacted directly. According to Davido, Dangote later called him and made a similar request.
Davido said he refused to delete the posts, insisting that he would continue posting until the Independent National Electoral Commission officially announced the result.
The singer described the eventual victory of his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, as evidence that popular support can overcome political and financial influence.
He urged political leaders to learn from the outcome, saying that when elected officials stand with the people, the people will support them in return.
Davido’s involvement in Osun politics is closely linked to his family. His late uncle, Senator Isiaka Adeleke, was the first civilian governor of Osun State, while his other uncle, Ademola Adeleke, is the incumbent governor who secured re-election in the August 15 governorship election.
