Former Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, has congratulated Governor Ademola Adeleke on his re-election, urging him to use his renewed mandate to promote unity, development and inclusive governance across the state.
Aregbesola, who was involved in the August 15 governorship election as a leading figure in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), said the election result reflected the decision of Osun voters and should be respected.
He urged Adeleke to see his re-election as a fresh responsibility to unite the state and govern fairly, regardless of political affiliation.
According to Aregbesola, the governor’s task is now bigger than the political contest, as he must focus on development, fairness, humility and serving every citizen of the state.
The former governor also commended Osun voters for their participation, describing them as politically sophisticated.
He praised ADC members for remaining committed to the party’s candidate, Najeem Salaam, despite what he described as intense political pressure. He also commended Salaam for the manner in which he conducted his campaign and accepted the outcome of the election.
Aregbesola said the ADC’s defeat should not end the party’s commitment to Osun State. He urged its members and supporters to remain united, hold the government accountable and continue presenting constructive alternatives.
He stressed that democracy becomes stronger when political actors compete vigorously but also demonstrate maturity by accepting the people’s decision and continuing to contribute to society after elections.
The former governor further called on Adeleke to extend a hand of fellowship to political groups across the state and make his second term one of reconciliation and broader inclusion.
He urged ADC members to continue pursuing the principles that brought them together, including good governance, accountability, justice, competence and public service.
Aregbesola concluded by wishing Adeleke wisdom, good health and success in his service to Osun State, adding that “Power is responsibility.”
