Senator Adenigba Fadahunsi has apologised for the tension generated by comments he made during a visit to the palace of the Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland, Owa Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, Ajimoko III.
Fadahunsi explained that his visit followed the conclusion of the Osun State governorship election and was intended to seek justice over the deaths of some members of his political party.
The senator said he was deeply affected by the killings and expressed disappointment that his emotional remarks were subsequently interpreted by critics as an appeal for violence.
Fadahunsi insisted that he never advocated chaos or violent action, describing such interpretations as unfair and stressing that his comments were made during a difficult period.
He also commended Owa Haastrup for his handling of the situation, praising the monarch for remaining calm and demonstrating wisdom despite concerns that the senator’s remarks had been disrespectful to the traditional institution.
According to Fadahunsi, the Owa’s balanced response helped prevent the disagreement from escalating and demonstrated the responsibilities of traditional rulers in maintaining peace within their communities.
The senator said political leaders should prioritise the welfare and peace of the people over personal emotions and political disagreements.
He stressed that the stability of Osun State and Ijesaland was more important than any electoral victory, defeat or political dispute.
Fadahunsi also appealed to his supporters and other residents to embrace peace and contribute to efforts aimed at healing tensions following the election.
While apologising for the misunderstanding and the tension it created, he maintained that his demand for justice over the deaths of his party members remained firm.
He called on the Osun State Government and relevant security agencies to investigate the reported killings thoroughly and ensure that those responsible face justice through lawful means.
The senator urged all political actors to set aside their differences and work towards restoring peace and unity across the state.
Fadahunsi said he would continue to pursue justice for the victims while encouraging his supporters and members of the public to avoid actions capable of worsening the situation.
