The daughters of veteran Yoruba Nollywood actor, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, have appealed for urgent medical assistance after revealing that their father is battling stage-four cancer.
Lima and Kira Taiwo made separate emotional appeals on Instagram on Monday, asking Nigerians, well-wishers and medical professionals with experience in cancer treatment to help their father.
Lima said the actor’s condition had deteriorated and that hospitals had reportedly refused to continue treating him. She stressed that the family was not seeking financial donations, but rather a hospital or medical professional willing to provide treatment.
She said the family only discovered the seriousness of his condition about three weeks ago, noting that his appearance had initially not suggested how severe the illness was.
Kira, in a separate video, confirmed that Ogogo’s cancer was at stage four, saying the hospital had told the family that it could no longer administer chemotherapy.
She appealed to anyone capable of providing cancer treatment, including chemotherapy, to contact the family.
The daughters also acknowledged individuals who had been assisting with their father’s medical bills, including Senator Yayi, whom Kira said had been helping to foot the expenses.
Kira became emotional while describing her father’s condition, saying she had never seen him in such pain and that he had expressed fear of dying.
Taiwo Hassan, 66, is one of the most recognisable actors in Yoruba cinema. He has spent more than four decades in the Nigerian film industry and has featured in over 300 movies.
As of the time of the report, Ogogo’s management and family had not released an official statement providing details of the specific hospital, type of cancer or full medical diagnosis.
