The Senior Special Assistant on Digital Media to Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, Apostle Kassy Chukwu, has declared that singer Davido will not be allowed to perform in the state for the remainder of the governor’s administration.
Chukwu made the statement in a video shared by Peniel TV International Benin City, amid the ongoing disagreement between Davido and Governor Okpebholo.
The dispute began after Okpebholo criticised Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is Davido’s uncle, during activities surrounding the August 15 governorship election.
Davido subsequently responded on social media, sharing what appeared to be the governor’s WAEC result. The singer later defended the post during an interview and maintained that he had no reason to apologise.
Reacting to Davido’s position, Chukwu accused the singer of disrespecting the governor and his family. He said the musician had been banned from holding performances anywhere in Edo State for the rest of Okpebholo’s tenure.
The governor’s aide also claimed that some Edo youths were unhappy with Davido’s comments and warned that the singer could receive an unfriendly reception if he returned to the state.
Chukwu further criticised Davido’s publication concerning Okpebholo’s academic record, alleging that the document had been manipulated and cautioning the singer against making similar posts.
The disagreement intensified after Okpebholo questioned Adeleke’s conduct as governor and criticised his dancing during the Osun election campaign.
Davido responded by defending his uncle and questioning why the Edo governor had left his state to participate in the Osun election campaign.
He also rejected calls for an apology, maintaining that his response was connected to the governor’s comments about Adeleke.
The latest statement from the Edo governor’s aide has added another layer to the public dispute, with the video generating reactions across social media.
