Nollywood actress Omotunde Ogundimu has appealed to Nigerians for financial support to enable her to continue treatment for cervical cancer.
The actress disclosed that she was diagnosed with the disease in 2024 after undergoing several medical tests.
Ogundimu made the disclosure during an interview with her colleague, Biola Bayo, published on Wednesday, saying the illness had placed a heavy physical, emotional and financial burden on her.
She said she had received assistance from some individuals, including her children, but the rising cost of treatment had made it increasingly difficult to continue.
According to the actress, her children have been using much of their income to support her care, leaving them with little time and resources for themselves.
Ogundimu said she decided to make a public appeal despite being aware that some people might criticise her for seeking financial assistance.
The actress, who has spent about 35 years in the Nigerian film industry, also spoke about the decline in acting opportunities and the low fees she receives for roles.
She revealed that despite her experience, she sometimes earns between ₦20,000 and ₦40,000 for acting jobs.
Ogundimu, a mother of three and a widow whose husband died in 2012, appealed to colleagues in the industry to forgive her if she had offended anyone and to consider her long contribution to Nollywood.
She also urged filmmakers and industry stakeholders to give her more opportunities as she continues to battle the illness.
