Olori Ivie Atuwatse III, wife of the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, has said her husband has no intention of taking another wife, insisting that she is more than enough for him.
The queen consort made the remarks during an interview with BBC News Pidgin published on September 23, 2026, where she discussed her marriage, fashion and life in the palace.
Speaking about the possibility of the monarch changing his position on polygamy, Olori Atuwatse dismissed the idea, joking that she has all it takes to fulfil the role of several women.
The monarch had also spoken about the issue during a BBC Pidgin interview in January 2026, explaining that he chose monogamy despite the historical practice of polygamy among some traditional rulers.
According to him, the responsibilities of the throne already require much of his time, and he prefers maintaining peace and stability within his family.
Olori Atuwatse said she particularly enjoys seeing people celebrate her husband’s achievements, adding that public recognition of his accomplishments also makes her proud and encourages her to celebrate him even more.
She, however, acknowledged that the demands of his royal responsibilities sometimes limit the amount of time they are able to spend together.
The lawyer also spoke about her distinctive turban, explaining that she considers it part of her identity and a symbol of her position as queen.
She said covering her hair does not make her feel restricted, noting that she chooses to wear the turban as a mark of respect whenever she is performing her duties as queen.
In a lighter moment, Olori Atuwatse revealed that she also plays a role in her husband’s appearance, joking that she serves as his stylist.
On politics, she said she had no plans to seek political office but encouraged women who are interested in politics to pursue leadership opportunities with confidence.
Olori Atuwatse and the Olu of Warri married in 2014 and have three children. The monarch became the 21st Olu of Warri in August 2021, succeeding his late uncle, Ogiame Ikenwoli.
