First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has urged Nigerians to reduce food waste and embrace sustainable practices to help protect the environment.
She made the call in a message marking the 2026 World Cleanup Day, observed on Sunday with the theme, “From Clean Plates to Clean Cities.”
Oluremi Tinubu said the focus on food waste was especially important as climate change, conflicts and other global challenges continued to disrupt food production and supply.
She encouraged households, businesses and communities to be more responsible in the way they purchase, prepare, consume and preserve food.
The First Lady also called on Nigerians to dispose of refuse properly and adopt environmentally friendly practices that would promote cleaner and healthier communities.
She stressed that collective action was necessary to protect the environment and create a healthier future for both present and coming generations.
