The Osun State Police Command has arrested six additional suspected cultists following an intelligence-led operation targeting criminal hideouts in Osogbo, the state capital.
The suspects were identified as Atilola Idris, 22; Shobowale Abeeb, 31; Jimoh Nasiru, 32; Tajudeen Jamiu, 26; Okanlawon Tajudeen, 27; and Abolubode Toheeb, 18.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zungura.
According to the statement, operatives attached to the Osogbo Area Command arrested the suspects on October 8, 2026, during targeted raids on vulnerable black spots across the city.
The police said one of the suspects, identified in the statement as Tajudeen Okanlawon, confessed that he joined the Aye confraternity cult group in 2023. He reportedly said the late Lekan Lexy initiated him into the group.
The statement further quoted the suspect as saying that Lekan Lexy was killed by rival cultists during the build-up to the recently concluded governorship election in the state.
The command confirmed that the six suspects had been charged before a court.
Meanwhile, the police have pledged to intensify intelligence gathering and tactical operations to identify and arrest other individuals allegedly involved in cultism, drug-related offences and other criminal activities across Osun State.
The command also reaffirmed its commitment to prosecuting those found culpable.
