Tension reportedly erupted in Ejigbo, Osun State, on Saturday after an alleged political thug identified as “Big Hammer” was accused of disrupting voting at the polling unit of ADC governorship candidate Najeem Salam.
Drivetvnews gathered that videos circulating from the scene showed voters and election agents fleeing in different directions as panic reportedly gripped the area. One individual said they had to jump over a fence to escape the incident.
A separate video also showed a damaged vehicle, with residents expressing anger over what they described as violence during an election meant to allow citizens to freely choose their preferred leaders.
The reported incident adds to a series of allegations of intimidation and disruption emerging across Osun as voters cast their ballots.
Governor Ademola Adeleke also raised security concerns after voting in Ede, alleging that a police officer known as “London” had been brought from Port Harcourt to interfere with the election.
He called on the police hierarchy and other security agencies to investigate the allegation and prevent any attempt to disrupt voting or manipulate the collation process.
With voting and collation attracting heightened attention, the responsibility now falls on security agencies and electoral officials to protect voters, prevent violence and ensure that the final results accurately reflect ballots legitimately cast.
