The Aresaadu of Iresaadu in Surulere Local Government Area of Oyo State, Oba Abraham Adeyeye Oyerinde, has raised concerns over an alleged plan by the state government to remove him from the throne.
Drivetvnews gathered that the monarch made the allegation in a letter addressed to the Acting Governor of Oyo State, Adebayo Lawal, and appealed for his intervention.
Oyerinde claimed that the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ademola Ojo, was behind moves to dethrone him and install another person as Aresaadu.
The monarch was reportedly installed in May 2019 by the late former Governor Abiola Ajimobi, who also approved his appointment and presented him with the staff and instrument of office.
Oyerinde explained that he was nominated by the Osunbiyi ruling house, after which his nomination was approved by government-appointed kingmakers before his appointment received the governor’s approval.
He said he was therefore surprised by the alleged moves to remove him from office.
According to the monarch, the ministry had issued a fresh letter in September 2026 directing the chairman of Surulere Local Government to instruct the Emiolu ruling house to nominate another candidate for the Aresaadu stool.
Oyerinde urged the Acting Governor to intervene and direct the immediate suspension of meetings allegedly being held to select a new candidate.
He argued that the throne had not been declared vacant by any court of competent jurisdiction and therefore appealed to the state government to halt any process aimed at installing another monarch.
The monarch maintained that his appointment followed the appropriate traditional and government procedures and asked the Acting Governor to protect what he described as his legitimate position on the throne.
