Suspected armed herdsmen have reportedly launched attacks on communities in Apa, Kwande, and Guma local government areas of Benue State, resulting in the deaths of 10 individuals and injuries to several others.Drivetvnews the gathered the information that the assailants, who have been encroaching on Benue communities with large herds of cattle since the onset of the dry season, initiated their assaults on Ubele, Ochumekwu, Adija, Kano, and Ijaha in Apa LGA on Sunday.Mr. Eche Akpoko, the National Chairman of Apa Development Association, confirmed the attacks and expressed deep concern over the relentless aggression of the marauders. Akpoko disclosed that five people lost their lives in Ijaha-Ibele, three in Ochumekwu, one in Adija, and another in Kano community, all within Apa LGA.The violence further extended to Yelewata in Guma LGA, where a farmer named Mr. Oryiman Ifa was assaulted while working in his cassava farm. Ifa was later rescued by neighbors and is currently undergoing treatment at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital in Makurdi.Additionally, marauders reportedly invaded Moon on River Mkomun near the Cameroon border, where villagers were held captive and threatened. Some villagers managed to escape after paying N5,000 each to those who assisted them.Catherine Anene, the Police Public Relations Officer, when contacted, stated that she had not received any information regarding the attacks.
