A prominent billboard endorsing President Bola Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election has been seen along the busy Area One area of the Federal Capital Territory. The billboard, featuring Tinubu and his wife, Remi, promotes the slogan “Grassroots support for Tinubu 2027, the 1019 initiative.” This has sparked conversations among commuters and other road users.
This development is notable because Tinubu has not officially announced his intention to seek re-election. Since taking office 16 months ago, Tinubu’s presidency has been marked by a combination of experiences for Nigerians, particularly due to the removal of fuel subsidies and the floating of the national currency. These policies have been linked to significant economic challenges and public dissatisfaction.
The resulting frustration led to the #EndBadGovernance protests, which occurred nationwide from August 1 to 10.
Attempts to reach Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, were unsuccessful. He has not responded to calls or text messages regarding this issue at the time of this report.
