Mrs. Jennifer Johnson, a pregnant woman, has raised alarm over the disappearance of her husband, Bright Johnson, a 33-year-old traditional healer from the Obolo area of Mbano in Owerri, Imo State. Bright has been missing since December 26, following his alleged abduction by armed men reportedly led by the youth president of the community, Amaze Chibuke, also known as Jaguar.
During the incident, their five-year-old son was reportedly shot and killed by the armed men, who were allegedly operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) in Owerri.
Speaking to Drivetvnews, Mrs. Johnson revealed that her husband has not been seen since the abduction. A commercial motorcyclist, who had also been detained alongside her husband after bringing a patient to their home for herbal treatment, later shared troubling details with her. After his release, the motorcyclist claimed that Bright was being held in a secret DSS cell in Owerri.
According to the motorcyclist, both he and Bright were taken to the DSS office in Owerri, where they were separated and detained in different cells. The motorcyclist, visibly shaken, told Mrs. Johnson that he had not seen her husband again since their separation.
“My father-in-law went to the DSS office to see him, but he was denied access. They told him to get a letter of authorization from the Mbano headquarters. However, when he got there, he was informed that the commander was in Abuja. It seems like they are just sending him in circles,” Mrs. Johnson lamented.
She explained that her husband had filed a legal case against Chibuke over a land dispute prior to his abduction. “We have reported my son’s killing and my husband’s abduction to the police. I also spoke to the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Henry Okoye, who directed me to report the matter at the divisional police headquarters. However, I lack the funds to facilitate the police investigation.”
Mrs. Johnson appealed for public assistance, stating, “They are trying to frame my husband to justify my son’s killing. If they have nothing to hide, why would Chibuke involve the DSS instead of allowing the police to handle the matter?”
Earlier, Mrs. Johnson had called for justice for her son’s death, accusing Chibuke of orchestrating the attack. She claimed that on December 26, Chibuke led a group of armed men who invaded their home, shooting her husband in the leg, his younger brother in the back, and killing her son.
Following pressure from family members and community leaders, Chibuke reportedly admitted that Bright was being held at the DSS office in Irete, along Onitsha Road in Owerri. Despite multiple attempts, the family has been unable to see Bright, as DSS officials have denied them access.
“I am pleading with the Director-General of DSS and the Inspector-General of Police to step in and save my husband. I need to know if he is still alive. He doesn’t even know that his son has been killed,” Mrs. Johnson said. “This is a family land dispute that has escalated into an attempt to destroy my family.”
When contacted for his response, Chibuke declined to comment on the allegations.
