Three operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) are currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital after being shot during a raid in the Jahi area of Abuja on Thursday night.

In a statement released on Friday, NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi revealed that the officers had acted on intelligence reports and surveillance data when they stormed an uncompleted building located in the NNPC section of Jahi.

During the operation, authorities confiscated 74 bottles of codeine, 10 litres of codeine syrup, 48 grams of tramadol (225mg), 4.9 kilograms of a potent cannabis strain known as skunk, and five Android phones.

However, as the team was leaving the scene, they were attacked by unknown gunmen. “Three officers were hit—one in the rib, while the others sustained injuries to the back and leg,” Babafemi stated.

The wounded personnel were initially treated at the Police Clinic in Garki Area 1 before being transferred to the National Hospital in Abuja for specialized care.

Babafemi also mentioned that the agency’s Chairman and Chief Executive, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (retired), expressed gratitude to the medical staff at both facilities. He acknowledged the swift response at the Police Clinic and appreciated the Chief Medical Director of the National Hospital for personally overseeing the ongoing treatment.

Though currently on assignment in Kano, Marwa spoke directly with the injured officers by phone, offering his support and wishing them a quick recovery. He also assured them that the NDLEA would work with other security agencies to track down and prosecute those behind the attack.

Despite the risks, the agency reaffirmed its determination to continue cracking down on drug trafficking operations across the country.
