Yoruba nation advocate, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has stated that he remains on the Federal Government’s wanted list, despite the fact that Nigeria’s current president, Bola Tinubu, is of Yoruba descent.

Igboho made this remark on Wednesday in response to a claim by Hajia Naja’atu Mohammed, a former director in President Tinubu’s presidential campaign, who alleged that he was freely moving around despite being declared wanted.

Dismissing her assertion as baseless, Igboho warned Naja’atu against involving him in political controversies.

“I’m still listed as wanted by the Federal Government, even though President Bola Tinubu, a fellow Yoruba man, is now in power,” he said. “At the moment, I can only travel within Europe and other parts of the world using my German passport. I cannot return to Nigeria because the order declaring me wanted, which was issued under former President Muhammadu Buhari, remains in effect. Despite the change in leadership, that directive has not been revoked.”

He went on to question the justification for his status as a wanted person, noting that he merely exercised his constitutional right to speak out about the state of the country.

“What crime did I commit?” he asked. “All I did was raise my voice against the relentless attacks on farmers, the violence, and sexual abuse inflicted on women by Fulani herders in the South West, particularly in farming communities, during Buhari’s administration. On July 1, 2021, heavily armed operatives from the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigerian Army raided my residence in Ibadan, either to arrest or eliminate me. That brutal operation lasted several hours, leaving two of my associates dead and 13 others in custody.”

Igboho also criticized Naja’atu Mohammed, questioning her silence during the height of Boko Haram attacks and other security crises under the previous administration.

“Where was Hajia Naja’atu Mohammed when Boko Haram and armed herders were terrorizing both the North and the South West during Buhari’s tenure?” he said. “At the time, Sheik Abubakar Gumi acted as a mediator between the government and terrorist groups, reportedly earning millions of dollars. Now that President Tinubu is taking a firmer stance against insurgency and steering away from using such intermediaries, this woman has resorted to making false and malicious statements. She should leave me out of her political narratives.”
