The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the deaths of two police officers and the abduction of a Chinese national and a Nigerian citizen following an attack at a mining site in the Oreke-Okeigbo community, located in Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state.

The incident took place around 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, when unidentified gunmen stormed the mining facility, fatally shooting two officers — an Assistant Superintendent of Police and an Inspector — both deployed from the 45 Police Mobile Force, Abuja.

In an official statement released on Thursday, the command’s spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, speaking on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, confirmed the tragic event.

According to the statement, “On June 4, 2025, at approximately 1830hrs, a violent attack occurred at a mining site in Oreke-Okeigbo. The assailants, yet to be identified, opened fire and killed two police personnel — ASP Haruna Watsai and Inspector Tukur Ogah — who were providing security at the location. Their service rifles were also taken by the attackers.”

The statement further disclosed that two workers at the site were kidnapped during the assault. The victims were identified as Mr. Sam Xie Wie, a Chinese national, and Mr. David Adenaiye, a Nigerian from Kogi State.

Condemning the incident, CP Adekimi Ojo emphasized that the command had initiated a comprehensive investigation and rescue mission. He assured the public that efforts involving tactical and intelligence units were in motion to locate the kidnapped individuals and bring the perpetrators to justice.

The police also noted that they are working closely with other security agencies and local stakeholders to enhance safety measures in the area and prevent further attacks.

Residents were encouraged to stay calm and continue supporting security efforts by providing reliable information that could assist in the investigation and recovery process.

“The Kwara State Police Command remains dedicated to safeguarding lives and property,” the statement concluded.
