President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on Nigerians to offer dedicated prayers for the nation’s armed forces and security personnel, acknowledging their significant efforts in safeguarding the country, particularly in combating terrorism and banditry.

Addressing journalists after performing the Eid-el-Adha prayers at the Dodan Barracks Eid Ground in Lagos on Friday, President Tinubu emphasized the importance of remembering the less privileged and frontline security workers during the festive season. He highlighted the need for unity, compassion, and a spirit of sacrifice among citizens.

“In this season of sacrifice, we must not forget the vulnerable among us. We should give generously, love our neighbors, and uphold unity. Let us be our brother’s keeper,” the President stated.

He further stressed, “Our military forces are confronting enormous challenges to ensure our safety. It is crucial that we pray for them and appreciate their sacrifices. As citizens, we must also uphold responsible behavior and support the nation’s peace efforts.”

The President’s remarks were shared in a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. Tinubu was joined at the prayer ground by other notable figures, where the Chief Imam of Lagos State, Sheikh Suleiman Oluwatoyin Abu-Nola, delivered a sermon highlighting the theme of sacrifice.

In his message, Sheikh Abu-Nola urged Muslims to embody the spirit of sacrifice demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim. He noted that personal and collective sacrifices are essential for the progress of both the nation and its communities.

“The message of today is about sacrifice. We must commit ourselves to serve God sincerely and work for the betterment of our families, communities, and country,” the Imam said.

He also encouraged the congregation to promote peace and support the needy, adding, “To build the Nigeria we all desire, we must rise above ethnic divisions and work together. Whether Igbo, Yoruba, or Hausa, we are all Nigerians and must strive for unity and development.”

Several high-profile individuals attended the Eid prayer alongside the President. Among them were the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar; Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola; Minister of State for Defence, Bello Muhammed Matawalle; Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Femi Hamzat; and former Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola.

Other dignitaries present included National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly Mudashiru Obasa, President of the Dangote Group Alhaji Aliko Dangote, BUA Group Chairman Abdul Samad Rabiu, Oando Group Chief Executive Wale Tinubu, and Professor Shaffideen Amuwo, a close associate of President Tinubu.
