Renowned Nigerian actor, director, and film producer Kayode Adewumi has died in Toronto, Canada, following a long battle with illness.

His family confirmed the news through an Instagram post, stating that Adewumi, fondly known as KP, passed away peacefully on the morning of June 28, 2025.

The announcement read in part: “With heavy hearts, we share the passing of our beloved Kayode Peters Adewumi, who peacefully departed this life in Toronto, Canada, after courageously enduring a lengthy illness.”

The tribute described KP as a beloved son, husband, father, brother, and friend, whose creative talents and compassionate nature left a lasting impact on many. “He was not only a talented filmmaker and actor but also a warm-hearted and generous individual who touched numerous lives on and off screen,” the family wrote.

Adewumi gained recognition for creating the hit sitcom Flatmates in 2004 and later served as the executive producer of its follow-up series, My Flatmates.

He began his career in the performing arts with Theatre 15 at the University of Lagos before venturing into television. His production credits include notable Nigerian series such as Twilight Zone and Papa Ajasco and Company.

Adewumi also transitioned into film directing, with works like 13 Letters (2019) and Crazy Grannies (2021) among his credits.

He will be remembered for his creative brilliance and the warmth he brought to everyone around him.
