Six people have lost their lives and eight others sustained injuries in two separate road crashes that occurred on Monday in Gombe State.

The Gombe State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the incidents in official reports, describing them as avoidable accidents caused by reckless driving and speed violations.

The first crash happened around noon at Airport Junction along the Gombe–Bauchi Road, near Lawanti. FRSC officials received a distress call shortly after the incident and arrived at the scene within 15 minutes.

Three vehicles were involved: a commercial DAF HOWO trailer tanker, a red Toyota car, and a Bajaj motorcycle. Ten male occupants were affected in the collision. Five people sustained injuries ranging from head trauma to fractures and cuts, while five others died on the spot.

FRSC officials attributed the crash to dangerous driving. Rescue efforts were carried out in collaboration with members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers. The injured victims were taken to the Specialist Hospital in Gombe for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the hospital’s mortuary. The damaged vehicles were handed over to the Motor Traffic Department for further investigation.

The second accident occurred later the same day at about 1:02 p.m. along the Gombe–Dukku road, between the NEPA office area and Rumbus. FRSC operatives arrived at the scene within five minutes of receiving the report.

This crash involved a single DAF trailer. Seven adult males were involved. Three sustained injuries, one person died, while three others escaped unhurt. The FRSC identified excessive speed and loss of control as the likely causes.

The injured victims were rushed to the Federal Teaching Hospital and the General Hospital in Gombe, while the body of the deceased was released to the family.

The FRSC has once again urged motorists to obey traffic regulations and drive responsibly to prevent further loss of lives on the state’s roads.
