Anthony Joshua has spoken publicly for the first time following a tragic road accident in Lagos that claimed the lives of two of his closest friends.

In a heartfelt video shared on his social media platforms, the former world heavyweight champion paid tribute to Sina Ghami and Latif ‘Latz’ Ayodele, who died in the crash, while thanking those who supported him during this difficult time.
The accident occurred on December 29, 2025, when a Lexus SUV carrying Joshua and his friends collided with a parked truck. Joshua sustained minor injuries, but Ghami and Ayodele, both integral members of his team and personal circle, were killed instantly.
In his video message, Joshua reflected on the profound impact his friends had on his life:
“The last time I spoke to you was in Miami. We had plans to close out 2025 together, but everything changed in an instant. We lost people who were not only colleagues but brothers, major players in all of our lives. It’s incredibly tough.”
Joshua described his late friends as more than teammates, noting that they had shared business ventures, lived together, and supported each other through every stage of life:
“They were my brothers first, friends second. We became partners, hustlers, generals, housemates. Losing them is unlike anything I’ve experienced.”
The Olympic gold medallist also emphasized his commitment to supporting the families of Ghami and Ayodele:
“I will help their families pursue the dreams of those who are no longer with us. Their legacy will live on, and I will honor them through my prayers and actions.”
Alongside the video, Joshua extended his gratitude to fans, medical personnel at Lagoon Hospital in Ikoyi, Lagos, President Bola Tinubu, Femi Otedola, Aliko Dangote, Senator Daisy Danjuma, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, and the governors of Lagos and Ogun states for their support during the aftermath of the crash.
Following the tragedy, the remains of Ghami and Ayodele were repatriated to the United Kingdom, where a joint funeral prayer service was held at a London mosque on January 4, 2026.
Joshua’s message underscored the depth of his bond with his late friends, as well as his dedication to honoring their memory while leaning on the support of loved ones and fans worldwide.
