Suspected members of Boko Haram have reportedly killed four soldiers and a civilian during an attack on Mussa community in Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.
The incident, which occurred around midday on Wednesday, was confirmed by the council chairman, Mada Saidu. He disclosed that the civilian victim was a woman.
According to military sources, the soldiers killed were members of the 115 Task Force Battalion. They were said to have confronted the attackers while trying to prevent them from entering the community.
A source explained that although the number of insurgents involved in the assault was relatively small, the attack was well-coordinated and aimed at breaching the town’s defenses. Despite resisting the invasion, the troops suffered casualties during the exchange.
Residents of the area reported hearing intense gunfire for about 30 minutes, forcing many people to flee their homes in panic. One local resident noted that the intervention of the military helped stop the attackers from gaining full access to the community.
The incident is part of a continuing pattern of attacks targeting both security personnel and civilians in parts of Borno State.
