Suspected bandits launched a deadly daytime attack on Awon village in Southern Kaduna State, killing two residents and abducting seven others, further deepening security concerns in the region.
According to reports gathered by Drivetvnews, the attackers, estimated to be about 30 in number, stormed the community on roughly 15 motorcycles on Monday morning. Residents said the gunmen arrived at about 9:00 a.m., split into groups, and began shooting across the village.
Two residents, Joseph Sule and Awilo Madugu, were confirmed dead following the assault.
Seven villagers were reportedly taken away by the assailants. Those abducted were identified as Gift Victor, Hannatu Yusuf, Salina Sam, Silvia Sam, Dogarah Maisamari, Hassana Bulus, and Joy Samaila.
Tension remains high in the area, with reports indicating that some residents are still missing after fleeing into nearby bushes during the attack. Community sources also disclosed that at least one injured victim is receiving treatment in critical condition at a hospital.
Residents described the incident as part of a troubling pattern of recurring violence in the community. They recalled that just over a week earlier, armed men had attempted to invade the same village during a church service, but were repelled by security operatives.
According to locals, the swift response of the military during the latest incident helped prevent even greater casualties and more abductions.
Southern Kaduna has continued to witness repeated attacks by armed groups, resulting in deaths, kidnappings, injuries, and the displacement of many residents.
