At least three people have been confirmed dead after armed bandits attacked Yankamaye community in Tsanyawa Local Government Area of Kano State on Monday night.
Residents said the attackers stormed the village and opened fire indiscriminately, causing panic as many people fled their homes for safety.
The member representing Ghari/Tsanyawa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Engr. Sani Bala, confirmed the incident in a statement shared online. He disclosed that three bodies had been recovered following the attack.
He expressed concern over the growing insecurity in the area and described the incident as disturbing.
Eyewitnesses said the gunmen invaded the community suddenly and fired repeatedly at residents and houses.
A resident, Saifullahi Sorodaya, told Arewa PUNCH that villagers had no choice but to run for their lives as the attackers continued shooting across the town.
Another resident, Madahuru Ibrahim, said several people also sustained injuries during the attack and were rushed to hospital for treatment.
Residents revealed that Yankamaye and nearby communities have experienced repeated attacks from bandits since 2025, with many of the assailants reportedly operating from neighbouring Katsina State.
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies in Kano State had yet to release an official statement on the incident.
Efforts to reach the spokesperson of the Kano State Police Command, CSP Abdullahi Haruna, were unsuccessful as calls to his phone did not connect.
