No fewer than seven people lost their lives in a tragic road accident involving two trailers and two Micra cars at Elewe-Odo Bus Stop in Ibadan North East Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Drivetvnews gathered that the crash, which occurred on Tuesday, also left a woman and her twin children with serious injuries.
Confirming the incident, the Oyo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Kehinde Dahunsi, said the injured victims were rushed to the University College Hospital, Ibadan, for urgent medical treatment.
According to eyewitness accounts, all the vehicles involved were travelling in the same direction when one of the trailers reportedly suffered brake failure.
The eyewitness explained that a trailer in front was attempting to turn into a company premises while a Micra vehicle was directly behind it. Another trailer approaching from the rear allegedly lost control after its brakes failed and rammed into the Micra, crushing the occupants.
The impact reportedly killed seven people instantly at the scene.
Dahunsi, who visited the accident location with rescue officials, confirmed that emergency responders successfully rescued the injured woman and her twins before taking them to the hospital.
He also stated that the bodies of the deceased victims had been deposited at the Odogbo Cantonment Barracks mortuary.
The FRSC boss attributed the accident to brake failure and urged motorists, especially drivers of heavy-duty vehicles, to ensure regular maintenance of their vehicles to prevent similar tragedies.
