Former Osun State Governor and National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola, has claimed he is the first governor in Nigeria to complete an eight-year tenure without owning a personal house.
Speaking in a video that surfaced online on Thursday while addressing supporters, Aregbesola said he lived in a friend’s house throughout his time as governor of Osun State.
According to him, despite serving as governor from 2010 to 2018 in his home state, he never acquired a private residence.
“I’m the first governor in Nigeria to govern a state for eight years without owning a house of my own,” Aregbesola said.
He challenged anyone disputing his claim to identify any property belonging to him.
“I stayed in my friend’s house for eight years as governor in my father’s land. Whoever says what I’m saying is not true should come out and show me the house I own,” he added.
Aregbesola later served as Nigeria’s Minister of Interior under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari after completing his tenure as governor.
During his administration in Osun State, he introduced programmes focused on poverty reduction, job creation, education, healthcare, community development, and social welfare.
