The Kaduna State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Sadiq Mamman-Lagos, has urged northern politicians seeking the presidency in 2027 to support President Bola Tinubu and allow him to complete two terms in office.
Mamman-Lagos made the call while speaking with journalists in Kaduna on Friday, arguing that the presidency currently belongs to the South-West under the political understanding that led to Tinubu’s emergence.
He appealed to northern political actors to put their presidential ambitions on hold, saying the region would have its opportunity to produce the country’s president when the time comes.
The commissioner also warned politicians against allowing political disagreements to create tension ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to him, former President Muhammadu Buhari and other northern leaders played important roles in the political arrangement that eventually produced Tinubu as president.
Mamman-Lagos also dismissed the growing activities of opposition parties, particularly the African Democratic Congress, claiming that the party lacked sufficient grassroots structures to defeat the All Progressives Congress in Kaduna State.
He argued that popularity on social media platforms and the ability to attract large crowds at rallies should not be mistaken for actual electoral strength.
The commissioner noted that many voters, particularly women in rural communities, are not active on platforms such as TikTok and Instagram, making grassroots mobilisation crucial to electoral success.
He further challenged opposition politicians to campaign based on their records in public office and demonstrate what they had achieved for their respective communities.
Mamman-Lagos also expressed confidence that Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani would secure a second term in 2027, citing the projects and programmes of his administration across the state.
