Former Super Eagles striker Obafemi Martins has announced plans to organise a youth football tournament in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign.
Martins disclosed this during an interview with TVC, saying the tournament, which he referred to as the “Renewed Hope Tournament,” is scheduled for November.
According to the former Inter Milan and Newcastle United forward, teams from Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones will participate, alongside additional invited teams.
Martins said the initiative would support Tinubu’s campaign while also providing opportunities for young Nigerians through football.
He explained that he would personally fund the tournament, describing it as an initiative for both the President and Nigerian youths.
The announcement came shortly after Martins expressed support for Seyi Tinubu potentially becoming president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) in the future.
Speaking on the Mikel Obi podcast, the former striker described Seyi as young and said he understands the needs and expectations of Nigerians.
Martins’ planned tournament adds to his recent public support for the Tinubu administration ahead of the 2027 general election.
