The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Abeokuta South State Constituency II, Adeoye Adewale Adeniran, has urged Ogun State voters to prioritise integrity, competence and credibility over financial influence and political popularity in the 2027 governorship election.
Speaking during a meeting with PDP members in Ward 14, Onikolobo, Adeoye appealed to residents to look beyond campaign billboards, political rallies and vote-buying when choosing the state’s next governor.
According to him, voters should carefully assess the character, track record and commitment to public service of those seeking elective office.
The PDP candidate referenced recent comments by the party’s Ogun Central senatorial candidate, Iyabo Obasanjo, who questioned the integrity of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi.
Adeoye argued that the allegations should not be dismissed as ordinary political attacks, stressing that they came from someone who had previously worked closely with Adeola in politics.
He also linked the concerns to controversies surrounding the 2026 Federal Budget, where civil society groups, policy analysts and opposition figures raised questions over alleged budget padding, duplication of allocations, off-mandate projects and constituency projects reportedly inserted into agencies outside their statutory responsibilities.
According to Adeoye, Nigerians deserve transparency on public spending, particularly given Adeola’s position as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations.
He maintained that elections driven by money and popularity often produce leaders who fail to meet public expectations, insisting that Ogun residents should reject such politics.
The PDP candidate described the party’s governorship flagbearer, Oladipupo Adebutu, as a leader committed to service, citing his humanitarian efforts and community development initiatives across the state as evidence of his dedication.
Adeoye also pledged to sponsor people-oriented legislation if elected and urged residents across Abeokuta South and Ogun State to reject vote-selling.
He concluded that the 2027 election should be centred on competence, honesty and service, stressing that integrity remains the foundation of good leadership.
