Nigerian troops under Operation Hadin Kai have killed a senior Boko Haram commander, Abu Khalid, along with 10 other insurgents during a coordinated night operation in Sambisa Forest, Borno State.
The operation took place around 11 p.m. on Saturday in the Komala area of Konduga Local Government Area. Abu Khalid, described as the group’s second-in-command in the Sambisa axis, was reportedly a key figure responsible for coordinating terrorist activities and logistics.
Confirming the development on Sunday, the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, North-East Operation Hadin Kai, Lieutenant Colonel Sanni Uba, said the troops engaged the insurgents after making contact during a night offensive supported by members of the Civilian Joint Task Force.
He explained that the successful raid came less than 24 hours after the military eliminated another high-profile Boko Haram/ISWAP commander, identified as Julaibib, in the Gujba axis of the Timbuktu Triangle.
According to Uba, the troops recovered five AK-47 rifles, magazines, bicycles, food supplies, assorted logistics, and a significant quantity of medical materials from the scene. He added that no casualties were recorded among the soldiers involved in the operation.
Uba said morale among the troops remains high as clearance operations continue across Sambisa Forest, the Mandara Mountains, the Timbuktu Triangle, and other known insurgent hideouts in the North-East.
He reaffirmed the military’s determination to sustain the offensive until all terrorist elements are eliminated and lasting peace and economic stability are restored to the region. The military high command, he added, has commended the troops for their dedication and urged them to maintain the current operational momentum.
