A High Court in Kano has sentenced four men to 10 years in prison each after finding them guilty of armed robbery and criminal conspiracy.

The convicts—Shafi’u Abubakar, Usman Suleiman, Usman Sa’idu, and Ali Isah—were tried before Justice Adam Abdullahi. In addition to their jail terms, each was fined ₦10,000.

The court heard that the defendants, all residents of Rijiyar Lemo, were involved in coordinated robbery attacks on homes in Sabon Garin Doka and Bankaura communities within Ungogo Local Government Area.

According to the charges, the incident took place in the early hours of July 22, 2024, between 3:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m., when the group, armed with weapons, broke into the residences of Abdullahi Musa and Mansur Muazu. They assaulted the victims and carted away valuables.

Items reportedly stolen included mobile phones, a motorcycle, and cash sums. The offences were prosecuted under relevant provisions of the Penal Code covering conspiracy and armed robbery.

During the trial, the prosecution presented two witnesses to support the case. Initially, the defendants pleaded not guilty but later changed their plea to guilty through their lawyer.

Following the review of evidence and their admission, the court found them guilty on all counts. Justice Abdullahi ordered that the sentences should run concurrently, starting from the date of their arrest on July 22, 2024.
