The extremist group ISIS has claimed responsibility for a deadly attack on two communities in Adamawa State, where at least 29 people lost their lives.

The group, also known as ISIL, reportedly made the claim through a statement shared on Telegram, a platform it has frequently used to announce its involvement in violent incidents across different regions.

The attack occurred in the communities of Guyaku and Telabala in Gombi Local Government Area. What began as a local football match quickly turned tragic when armed attackers stormed the area.

Residents said the assailants deliberately targeted the gathering, striking in the early evening when many people had assembled to watch the match. Eyewitnesses reported that the attackers opened fire, causing panic as spectators and players scrambled for safety.

A local resident recounted that the attackers arrived suddenly, shooting indiscriminately and killing people, including individuals sitting nearby. Some structures were also set ablaze during the нападение, adding to the destruction.

Beyond the loss of lives, properties including homes and a religious building were destroyed, leaving parts of the affected communities devastated. Survivors were seen fleeing with their belongings as fear spread across the area.

Governor Umaru Fintiri visited the affected communities, describing the incident as deeply troubling. He assured residents that the government would work closely with security agencies to strengthen protection and prevent further attacks.

The traditional ruler of the area, Aggrey Bechour-Ali, raised concerns about possible internal collaborators, suggesting that the attackers may have received information that helped them target the gathering.

The incident has intensified fears among residents, with many calling for urgent and sustained security intervention to curb recurring attacks in the region.
