No fewer than 30 people have reportedly been killed after armed men ambushed travellers along a highway in Zamfara State.
According to a security report, the victims included civilians, local hunters, and community protection guards who were attacked late Sunday by suspected bandits.
The latest attack comes days after troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA recorded successes against armed groups in parts of the state during coordinated military operations in Kaura Namoda and Birnin Magaji local government areas.
Military authorities said troops engaged heavily armed terrorists during a fighting patrol aimed at disrupting criminal activities and restricting the movement of armed groups in the area.
The operation reportedly led to the killing of several terrorists, while weapons and ammunition were recovered during the gun battle at Doumbourum Village.
Despite ongoing military offensives, Zamfara and several northwestern states continue to experience repeated attacks linked to killings, kidnappings, and cattle rustling by armed groups.
