Nigerian singer has appealed to Nigerians to stop stereotyping all Fulani people as bandits, stressing that criminality should be treated as an individual act rather than being linked to an entire ethnic group.

Speaking in a video shared online, the controversial musician said it was wrong to assume that every Fulani person is involved in criminal activities simply because some bandits belong to the ethnic group.

According to him, many Fulani people are law-abiding citizens engaged in legitimate occupations such as cattle rearing, trading and other businesses across the country.

Portable noted that Fulani communities have lived in different parts of Nigeria for many years, just as Yoruba and Igbo people reside and conduct business in northern states.

He warned against attacking or discriminating against people based on their appearance or ethnic background, insisting that the fight should be directed at criminals rather than innocent citizens.

The singer further stated that banditry and other forms of crime cut across different ethnic groups, adding that individuals from various tribes have been linked to criminal activities at different times.

Portable also revealed that some Fulani people had been kind to him personally, which contributed to his belief that an entire ethnic group should not be judged by the actions of a few individuals.

He urged Nigerians to focus on identifying and confronting criminals wherever they come from while promoting peaceful coexistence among the country’s diverse ethnic communities.
