Youths in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, have declared a total shutdown of commercial and social activities across the town beginning on Monday in protest against what they described as the slow response to the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area.

The decision was announced during a mobilisation campaign captured in a video, where youths and community elders moved through different parts of the town using megaphones to urge residents to participate in the planned action.

Some participants carried placards, while others rode motorcycles through major streets, encouraging businesses, workers, and residents to support the protest.

Addressing residents, one of the youth leaders called for full compliance with the shutdown, stating that commercial activities, including buying and selling, should be suspended throughout the day.

According to the organisers, the action is intended to draw public attention to the continued captivity of the abducted pupils and teachers and to pressure security agencies and government authorities to intensify efforts toward securing their release.

The planned shutdown is expected to affect markets, workplaces, and transportation activities within Ogbomoso.

The youths stressed that the protest would be conducted peacefully and urged residents to maintain order while participating.

The development comes amid growing frustration among families, community members, and stakeholders who believe that more urgent measures are needed to rescue the victims and address the security challenges affecting the area.
