Religious leader Primate Elijah Ayodele has appealed to the Federal Government to release the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.
Speaking during a church gathering in a video that later circulated online, the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church leader questioned the continued detention of Kanu and suggested that similar standards should be applied to other controversial figures in the country.
Ayodele argued that if the government decides to keep Kanu in custody, it should adopt the same approach toward Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi. According to him, applying different measures could raise concerns about fairness and consistency in the government’s actions.
The cleric also warned that dissatisfaction among citizens could lead to increased public demonstrations if pressing national concerns remain unresolved.
His comments come amid ongoing debates over Kanu’s detention, with several political and religious figures recently expressing differing views on the matter.
